Painting a Chair.. :)

You may think this sounds a bit odd, but it is really fun and enjoyable.. Start off with any wooden chair of your choice:

And then sand it using sand paper. The paint will stay on longer and look better if the chair is sanded. If it isn't, then you will have to apply more coats of paint and the layers will be uneven. :(
Once you sand it wipe it off with a wet paper towel and wait for it to dry......

WHILE YOUR WAITING...

While you are waiting for your chair to do, go ahead and start to sketch out ideas on paper... I really like water and beaches, so I decided to do that on the seat of my chair and then have a palm tree going up onto the back of the chair. Later I added flowers :)

After you have decided what you are going to do, get the colors that you need in acrylic paint. Make sure you have a lot, because you will need a lot!!!

Things to think about:
What is my background color?
Do I have a backup plan if no colors match what I need?
What is my palette going to be?
(You can use foil to hold your paint, especially if you are mixing a color because you can just fold it up REALLY tight and then it stays wet for another hard day's work).

Once your chair is dry draw your design on it. Then, paint your background color all over the chair, leaving the design alone...

Then PAINT PAINT  PAINT  PAINT  PAINT  PAINT  PAINT  PAINT  PAINT  PAINT!!!!!!!!!

And then you're done :)

You can do this on any wooden item.. I did it to a desk organizer, a footstool, a chair, and a step-stool..

Why not show us a picture of your finished chair??

Gracie: Interesting Language Learning Websites 2

In "Interesting Language Learning Websites" I told you readers that I was/might joining a websites called livemocha.com  It is alright, but so confusing... The lessons don't really teach you/explain much unless you already know it and are just touching-up on you Language Skills.
When you chat with someone from the country that your language (the one that you are learning) is spoken, you have to make sure that they are actually ONLINE. Even if they are, it is hard to find someone that will answer you... If they are half-way across the planet from you, you can't really TALK to them because when you are awake, they are sleeping, and when you are asleep they are awake...
For example, you need to already know the Hirigana chart to do anything (lessons, chatting, etc.). You also can't talk to Japanese people saying "Hi, I am Gracie. Nice to meet you. Because they might not know English and I don't have the Japanese Keyboard...

All in All: Don't do this if you are completely starting from scratch, but if you already know how to speak it and are just touching-up, this website will be a great help!

Coming Up: Top 10 Things Must-Do's for the Summer!! \(^-^)/

P.S. I can't wait for more comments so please comment to your heart's content!! Anyone have any different views of livemocha.com??

Gracie: Interesting Learning-Languages Websites

I have been interested in learning Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, and French for a few years (and have started with Japanese and Chinese) now. I found some really cool websites (meaning 2) for any of you who want to learn ANY language:

livemocha.com

You have to pay for the "Active Series" which only works for English, German, and a few other European languages... I am fairly certain that you have to pay monthly, which I don't really care to do.. Anyway, you will do lessons, read things, write things, talk ot those who are from the country from which the language you are learning is from, and help others.. This is TOTALLY a plus!!
I am thinking of joining this, so more updates will (probably) come!!

lingQ.com

"Ugh" if you aren't willing to pay a monthly fee... There are lessons on this website along with LingQ, which is (from my understanding) flashcards with words you are learning on them, and tests... If you DON'T pay, you are limited to a few things ( 5 lessons -- fairly certain). If you are a "Basic" Payer, then you still are limited... And then if you are a Plus payer, you are STILL limited.. If you are a Premium payer ($79/month) then you have unlimited.................. But I don't have that in my budget... :(

All in All:

I would prefer Livemocha.com, but you have your own decisions to make... It matters. If you have it in the budget, become a Plus on LingQ.com.

Wait For: More posts on Live Mocha and how it is and a few websites to learn Japanese  ^-^

Evy: App - Logo Quiz Game

Hi guys! I recently got a new app, Logo Quiz Game, for my phone and decided to write a review ;)

Logo Quiz Game
Overview: It's a great game! It's free, for one, and allows you to play numerous levels with different logos from popular businesses in each. Difficulty is extreme if you don't know your way around but the challenge makes it very, very fun. A group of my friends has the same game and we go around trading what we know from each level, so it's kind of like the board game Clue, the way we play it! ;) You can use hints and stuff to help you guess and you get rewarded points for each logo you guess correctly. Guessing incorrectly doesn't cause you to "lose," in a sense, but it deducts future points for when you actually guess the logo.
Feedback: In general I'm very much in love with this game, however there are a few kinks that could be worked out. Once the game shut down on me, and I dislike how, after closing the app for a few minutes, you have to start from the start menu again, even though it's a short travel to your level. I also dislike how every time you revisit the logos are in different places, and though that presents more of a challenge which can be a good thing, it definitely isn't my favorite part of the game.

You can purchase Logo Quiz Game in the App Store for free! Have any QCC about this review? Please send any feedback to evyandgracie@gmail.com ~~~~ thank you!!!! :)

Gracie: Overwhelming Projects??

It's the end of the year and for us in the Lusher family, it means more work... Maybe you get field trips and so on, but for us it is work, work, work!! Here are a few tips (if you are working your butt off studying and working on reports):

1. Relax... TOTALLY
When you are stressed, it can cause some major problems... For example, you get all mixed up on dates and bring in that Social Studies report on John Paul Jones when you were supposed to bring in that essay on why the Earth rotates... In conclusion, plain make sure you have time to relax and just sit there... Yeah... Imagining it RIGHT NOW..

2. PLAN AHEAD
Do you have anyone in your class that waits until the very next day to work on projects? You shouldn't have to. Projects are projects, not homework. If they were, you would be informed about them the day before it's due.. But you're told weeks or day before it is... I have this calender where I write down all of my projects. Then, I plan how much of it I will do each day. That way, I have NO NEED to worry...

3. Make sure that you AREN'T staying up late
This is a major in relaxing and planning, but I just want to turn it into one of the "Main Rules of Projects" because so many people do it... When you don't sleep enough, you won't be able to focus on the day ahead... Causing you to not have enough work done, even though you stayed up all night...

Hopefully these tips helped you!! =^-^=

Gracie: Saving the Sharks!! (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ)

Ok, guys, so I was watching the news (gasp)! It said some random stuff about useless things, and then I saw that some people were able to catch a 2,000 pound Great White Shark. That's cool, but cruel. It is. It's nose was all bloody, it was dragged up onto the shore, and was just plain killed.
I'm not someone who loves sharks. I'm not. I hate oceans because I'm afraid of sharks coming to kill me. I've heard stories of them killing people. But you know what? They don't kill us nearly as much as we kill them, almost for pure sport. For the fun of it. To get revenge on what? It hurting someone? It's like chickens revolting against humans and killing them for fun and to find the one that killed poor old Mr. Gerry. But they don't. Humanity?? Hello?? You there??
I may be boring you, but please hear me out. This is important and I want you to spread the news. Sharks just kill/hurt people because of their instinct. They do. Blood is what they smell and then they go and get the thing that's bleeding... Plain as that. They're hungry and we're meat. Don't blame them.
Shark fin soup? Finding the ones that killed people? Sport? Excitement? Those are things people kill sharks for. This really was a punch in the face for me, people thinking killing a shark that was 2,000 pounds is news... It's not..

I've been thinking and I realized I should make a club.. SAVE THE SHARKS!! Comment "I wanna join you're most awesome and earth-saving club!!" and I think you're pretty much in.. I spread the news and spread the club, because I'm pretty sure you don't want chickens to think this is okay and to try and kill Farmer Parkins for killing Mr. Gerry and selling it to Butcher. Because I might accidently eat Mr. Gerry and then get killed, and then poor Evy wouldn't have anyone to blog with... So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE join my club so we can SAVE THE SHARKS.

The A Poem by Anonymous

THE A POEM
A, A, so many things start with the letter.
Ambitious means dreaming for the better.
Alligator is an animal in water.
"Aha!" means Eureka, or by Jove, I've got her!
Names as in Annie or Alex or Ace,
Angst is an emotion shown in the face.
Allies are people you can trust,
Aglets on a shoelace are most definitely a must.
Abbeys, aides, Arlington and ages,
Already and Anxious, now please turn the pages!
Art, ache, apes, aim,
Artie, go ahead and take the blame.
A, A, A, A, such a wonderful letter.
A, A, A, A, A and A all better!

Gracie: Clay Balls (Stress Balls)

Heyy!! I am BACK from a swamp tour (here in good old Louisiana)! ANYWAY, I brought a little friend with me... A STRESS BALL!!( '>.< ) Why?? I just finished the Hunger Games and was like "DOODLES!! *THATS* THE ENDING?! MOM!! I NEED ANOTHER BOOK!!" (Team Gale-er)
Now, I, myself, have no clue HOW to get a stress ball, but I have a few little tips and tricks for MAKING your own.... Now, they aren't top-class, but they do the job!! :)

Things you'll need:
1. Clay made to be fired in a kiln (Did I say it correctly??)
2. Hands (your own, preferably)
3. Some stress

Instructions:

Take the clay and shape it into a PERFECT-ish ball-shape... If it gets dry (which it WILL) add some water to it..

Throw it down onto a FLAT surface so that there is a part of it that is flat so it can stay on a table without rolling off...  Let it AIR-DRY (this will take a while).

Once it is all dry, start to toss it around in your hands and get the feel.. Then you can just PLAIN THROW it around and toss it and so on.....

Goodbye, stress

(I am in <3 with my stress ball, that I made a smaller one to put in my purse...*mumbles* I must have a TON of stress..... :(

3. Pyramid (feat. Iyaz)
4. Eyes Open
5. Safe & Sound
6. Good Girl
7. True Love
8. Work of Art
9. Good Life
10. Young, Wild & Free

NOT IN A SPECIFIC ORDER! :)

Gracie: Vegetable Ribbon Pasta

I JUST  (meaning a year ago) got this AMAZING vegetable cookbook, and really want to share the recipes with you guys!! It also was used before and has some handwritten recipes... So here's VEGETABLE RIBBON PASTA:

Serves 4
Working time 35 min.
Total time 45 min.

What you'll need:
2 small zucchini
2 small yellow squash
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 leek cut into 2-inch strips
1 clove of garlic (minced)
1 green pepper cut into thin strips
1 yellow pepper cut into thin strips
1/2 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth, defatted
8 ounces fettuccine
2 ounces reduced-fat cream cheese cut into small bits
2 tablespoons skim milk
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

With a vegetable peeler, cut the zucchini and yellow squash lengthwise into little "ribbons" (hence the name "Ribbon Pasta").
Tip: When you try to make the ribbons, it can be a bit confusing. What you WANT to do is hold the squash in ONE hand and draw a swivel-bladed vegetable peeler lengthwise down the squash... This makes wide but THIN ribbons

In a large, deep nonstick skillet, heat the olive oil until it's hot (but not smoking) over medium heat. Add the leeks and garlic, stirring frequently, until the leek has softened. Add in the bell peppers and broth. Cook until the pepper have softened.

Meanwhile (in a large pot filled with boiling water) cook the pasta until JUST tender (xD, I sound like a SCARY PERSON)

Add your squashes (zucchini and yellow squash) to the skillet and cook until the squashes are tender (wonder how many times I've typed THAT). Stir in the cream cheese, milk, Parmesan, salt and black pepper and cook until the cheese is melted. Add the pasta and toss to coat. Place it on a fancy plate and VOILA!!

Hint hint: Younger squashes have LESS SEEDS making them look more ATTRACTIVE in ribbons xD

HAVE FUN COOKING!! :)

Gracie: Planning

I, personally, love to have my day planned out. So, continue reading for a few tips.. Don't be afraid to comment a few of your own!!

1. Weekday
On weekdays I always plan what to do before AND after school. For example
Before School:
Wash face
Make bed
Pack lunch
Shower
Lotion
Get ready for school
Breakfast
Brush teeth
SCHOOL

After School:
Wash face
Do homework
Get table ready
Read
Computer
Dinner
Brush teeth
Read/computer
Plan

2. Weekends
During weekends or breaks (Spring Break, Easter, Christmas, Report Cards, etc.) I just plan the thing I NEED to do. No schedule because I never know when we are about to go on an outing. For example:

Things to do:
Finish book
Write
Read
Blog
Clean room
Organize closet

Once I finish everything, I just go ahead and do what I want to do. Sometimes I do things that don't NEED to be done, but have a deadline in thee near future. I sometimes put another list like this:

Once you've finished List 1 (Things to do):
Paint
Type letter out
Type up report
Go through old clothes to give away

And suggestions??
To plan out your days, you can use a planner, but i usually write it all on a whiteboard we have at home... Way easier and can fix way more things than a planner... Just plain scratch paper will also work, but I don't like using it for some odd Gracie-Land reason xD

Gracie: Getting Gifts

No, this isn't a post about how to take a gift, but how to give a gift to friend on their birthday. Now, when you pick a gift, and you don't have that much money to spend, make sure you get something that they like. Of course, anyone in their right mind would give hints to what they want. Make sure you listen. "Hey, Gracie, I love Bath and Body Works, don't you?" Listen  to those kind of comments because then you can know what to get instead of guessing.
One other thing to look out for is what you think that person would like. Based on what their personality is and what their interests are. For example, they like swans..... Get them a little statuette of one.... Now, I have a friend who loves ducks, but has SO MANY duck-related things, I know she doesn't want one for her birthday gift. Be aware of that.
Don't fear if you have NO CLUE what to get him/her. Ask for a wishlist. If nothing on there is in your price-range, then go ahead and think "If she asks for a swan statue, then I can get her a swan pen or bag."
Happy Gift-getting!!

Evy: Instyler Review

As part of our updated website, we're adding product reviews as well! Also another update -- sorry Gracie hasn't posted in a while but she's been super busy and she'll get back on the site ASAP! Expect more Gracies than Evys soon as my schedule's getting more crowded by the day.

I got the Instyler a while back -- I ordered it on Ebay for pretty cheap (retail price on the website is $120+, the price I got it at was $60 even, free shipping & everything) because I had read so many good reviews about it online and needed something to help me do something with my hair. My hair is pretty and natural, and I didn't want to damage it with too much heat. Guess what, guys -- the Instyler doesn't damage your hair as much or burn it, and there are three different heat settings! There's a rotating barrel and brushes that help you get to each individual hair, so there's no risk, unless of course you sit there for ten hours pressing down super hard!

There's many great features about the Instyler, and if you were thinking about getting it, I hope this review makes your mind lean towards it. It works so much better than any flat iron! It can curl, feather, flip in/out, straighten, and do so many cool and awesome things that a regular flat iron or curling iron cannot do.

There are a few cons that come with it, though. It is a little noisy because it has a rotating barrel, but just a tiny bit and it really does not bother me at all. Also, it's hard to curl your hair because there's not a lot of room between the brushes and the heating barrel, and I've burned my thumb getting too close to it. It's not necessarily as easy as the videos say it is, but to straighten it's even easier. Flipping, I've learned, is best with shorter hair. I have pretty long hair and it doesn't necessarily work out very well for me, haha.

You should order your Instyler from Ebay if you get it. It comes with:

~ Instyler *DUHHH* there's several different colors
~ heat shield which is a plus
~ three-in-one styling comb
~ two separate instruction manuals

Have fun with your Instyler and if you need any help, please email Gracie or I with the subject INSTYLER HELP. I've gotten a few emails already & have tried to answer them as best as possible! Thank you!

Sophisticated, classy, and cute is still in! It's a little hard coming up with some combinations for yourself, and I suggest Khol's, abercrombie, Mossimo Supply Co., Old Navy, places like those! Here are a few example outfits for my girlfriends in the fifth grade - high school...(my own outfits, worn recently!)
~OUTFIT 1~
- abercrombie strapless white dress/shirt
- Mossimo Supply Co. shorts or jeans (if you get jeans, try getting flare?)
- Payless black flats
- ? white cropped cardigan
- Tiffany & Co. necklace
~OUTFIT 2~
- ? asymmetrically cropped owl shirt
- Justice white lace-hem tank top
- Mossimo Supply Co. shorts (preferably no longer than knee)
- ? hat, blue ribbon
- Converse (preferably black and white) with LOWER THAN ANKLE SOCKS

Evy: Penne Al Rigate w/Artichokes (as on chichoskitchen)

Hi everyone!
Recently made a yummy dinner dish for the family, and thought I'd share it with you --

penne w/artichokes
Ingredients (serves 6)

1 lb. penne rigate
1 small onion, finely sliced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
8 artichoke hearts, quartered
1 1/4 cups canned diced tomatoes
1 tbsp chopped parsley
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Salt and pepper

In a skillet over medium-high heat, sauté the onion and the garlic in the olive oil. Add the artichoke hearts. Cook to a pale gold color over high heat, then add the tomatoes, seasoning to taste. Simmer 15-20 minutes over medium heat.

Cook the penne rigate until al dente according to package directions in boiling, salted water. Drain and add to the artichoke sauce. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and grated Parmesan.

Very important notes: I would use less olive oil if I would make it again, maybe 1/8 cup instead. The dish was oily when using 1/4 cup. I would also add more salt, tomatoes, and artichokes -- using the whole can possibly. It was a little bland. :)

Evy: "The Hunger Games" Review

Hi everyone -- new rating system now!

"The Hunger Games"
PG-13
5/5 stars

Summary: "The Hunger Games," based off of Suzanne Collins's first book, reflects on the life of 18-year-old Katniss Everdeen who lives in the future North America: The 12 Districts of Panem. Each year, two children (one male, one female) between ages 12 and 18 are forced to enter their names in a lottery ring called the Hunger Games. The two children picked, called tributes, are trained and put into an arena where they fight to the death with a total of 22 other tributes. Katniss's sister is chosen in the 74th annual games, and Katniss willingly volunteers to replace her sister in the Hunger Games. The male tribute chosen is Peeta Mellark, the baker's son. The two find love, courage, and hope in this edge-of-your-seat, momentously huge film.

Review: I loved this production of Suzanne Collins's "The Hunger Games!" I think stars Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss) and Josh Hutcherson (Peeta) did an excellent job. I highly suggest that anyone under 13 years of age/squeamish/not a fan of exciting action movies does not see this film. There wasn't very much gore in this video, but it was still bloody and a few parts really made even my stomach turn. I also warn you to beware of the dog creatures -- you'll know what I'm talking about when you see the movie! It was absolutely fantastic and I'm anticipating more to come! Another tip: pre-purchase your tickets. The whole nation is hyped up about "The Hunger Games," and if you think you can pass buying tickets there, you'd better wait a full week or so to watch. Just warning you! :) And may the odds be EVER in your favor.

Hi sticky sock monkeys!
I'm not sure if they have Pre-UIL or UIL competitions where you are for your Fine Arts programs (band, orchestra, dance troupe, acting, choir, etc.), but where I am they do! I'm not exactly sure what UIL stands for, but it's a scoring competition, basically. Since UIL is a big deal, they even have a Pre-UIL, telling you what the UIL judges might count off for and how to pretty much improve your score. I had Pre-UILs today...and I'm afraid we'll come back with a 2 or 3 (scores range from 1 to 5, and the scorings are backwards - 1 is BEST, 5 is WORST). Our sightreading was OK (where you play random music for the first time), but we messed up on our performance :( I'll let you know when we get the scores back!

Have a good weekend! Gracie and I will try to Blogtime as much as we can. :) Share, Subscribe, Comment!

Evy: "The Hunger Games" - NOT A REVIEW

Hi my honey buns :)
This IS NOT A REVIEW OF THE HUNGER GAMES -- I haven't seen it yet, but I have tickets tomorrow! I'll make sure the first thing I do after I watch is to post a review to you guys ;) I personally have been ANTICIPATING THIS MOVIE FOR FOREVER -- and don't hate me, but I'm Team Gale, all the way! I think Peeta's a scrawny little baker boy -- although, Josh Hutcherson is a total h-o-t-t-i-e, hottie. If you're with me on Team Gale -- leave a comment! Honestly I think us Gale-fails (haha; that's what my Team Peeta friend calls us [and to be a hypocrite I <3 Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hensworth, altho Josh more]) are outnumbered by Team Peetas ;)

Evy: T3A

Hey my honeys!
So I'm not sure all of you know, but I'm a (if I say so myself) very musically talented girl! ;) I've started a band with my friends Abby, Taylor, and Chelsea. It's mostly a vocal group with a little instrumental. We just formed (our name is T3A, by the way -- a personal story that might be shared later haha), so we don't have anything going on -- but if you have any gig openings, make sure you email me at evyandgracie@gmail.com

Soon you'll find us on YouTube -- but again, we don't have anything yet :( I'll make sure to post T3A's developments on Blogtime! (They'll be listed as...T3A, under Evy: of course.)

Thanks so much!!!! T3A Forever!!! We love you!!!

STYLE update
I want you all to raid abercrombie for its super-cute, totally-pairable cardis - and if you want, hit JCPenny's for a few stylish belts to go along. A fashion idea - tank top, cardigan, belt, jeans or shorts, heels or sandals. You can find some cutie tops and accessories at Forever21, but whatever you do - avoid Justice and Gymboree this season!

CELEB update
I want all of you to hit the theaters to see "The Hunger Games" this Friday, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hensworth! In some places, they're all sold out for Friday - but it's okay if you'd like to wait! We'll be stuffing the theaters for at least a week to see this well-anticipated flick. (Just a hint - midnight premieres aren't really worth trying for; all those teenagers have already vied and cried for those tickets.) Jennifer Lawrence says she doesn't want to be a household name -- too late, honey!

Holiday after holiday...
Hope you all had a great St. Patty's Day! Now coming up is Easter - get your bunny baskets ready and your plastic eggs filled for some candied up fun!

We're trying out a new optimistic look, and so should you
It turns out, optimistic is in! Sassy...negative...not so much. :( Drop those worthless attitudes and get to smiling! This also means you should stock up on the teeth-whiteners, cause you're going to be showing off those knock-outers. Get lucky, and be a trendsetter where you are! OPTIMISM - looked happily upon ;)

Gracie: Pigges #1

Pigs are amazing and entertaining animals. Here are a few things that they are, and that you MIGHT want to watch out for if you are lucky enough to have your own little piggie:

SOCIAL

Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs are known to love living with other pigs. Two are easier to care for than one, trust me. They have been poven to be less aggressive when given a friend for company. Most people will buy a pig, get used to it, and then get another. Please make sure that they are spayed and neutered.

Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs also like human companionship. Don’t rob them of that! They love to get attention and absolutely love to cuddle. Why not let Gracie have a friend to wake her up in the morning?? Now, there is a downside to having a little friend who cannot stand life without a human companion; you cannot be gone for a long while. If you go on road trips a lot, you can get Piggie accustomed to cars while he is still a little piggie. Make sure that he is in a cage, or else….

Do you have a cat?? Piggie and Kittie will become the best of friends, probably. Now, Doggie here is something else. You see, pigs are considered prey, and dogs are considered Man’s Best Friend….. EVEN when he goes a-hunting. Now, what do you call the thing you are hunting?? Prey. And Piggie KNOWS that he is considered JUST THAT. Now, even if your doggies may be well tamed, make sure that when a piece of walking meat runs by, they don’t try and bite it…

INTELLIGENT

Piggie is one of the MOST intelligent animals on Earth. Really. He can be taught tricks and trained. And I know this isn’t a surprise, but Piggie can be taught to walk with dignity, even when Mommy is holding him with a leash. Now, make sure that Piggie doesn’t trick you into feeding him more by looking all sad. REMEMBER: Piggie is smart, Piggie is smart, Piggie is smart enough to outsmart me so I should make sure that he gets just enough food.

Sadly, Piggie needs help because he is so smart. He needs a Gifted class, and you are in charge of giving him that. Teach him new tricks, take him on a different route each day when you have your walk. Something that tests his mental and physical ability.

Now, Piggie needs a few things, a lot actually:

COMPANIONSHIP

Yes, Piggie needs you to play with him. If you don’t have the time, you should stop reading this now, because you are never going to be able to get a piggie. Really. Miss. Fornanbo from across the street will be more likely to be a better mom for that piggie than you, if you don’t have the time.

EXERCISE

You don’t want Piggie to become fat, and neither does Piggie. Exercise, DAILY exercise can cure that problem, and now you and Piggie don’t need to have nightmares about scales. You both can be lean and strong. Holding onto that leash, walking……. Yeah………Getting HEALTHY.

NUTRITION

VET CARE

Piggie will need to be spayed/neutered. Unaltered, they may become aggressive, no matter how many little buddies they have with the,. They also need hoof and teeth trims. Now, make sure you know where to go before you get Piggie. No need to go all the way to Arizona to make sure that Piggie has his hooves and teeth a-trimmed, now do we?

Now, here are some no-no’s.

1.    Mini piggies
They are just underfed, normal Vietnamese Pot-Bellied Pigs. It’s like trying to starve a child up for adoption so that people will think it is cute and small. Freaks do this, not future piggie parents.

2.    Bringing to the dogs
You are not allowed to being Piggie, when you get him, to a friends house who has a hunting dog. You do this and you need another piggie. Not good.

There will be a follow-up on this soon. Keep on reading and checking!!!
^-^

Gracie: "John Carter"

I, for one, loved the movie John Carter. Now, this isn't a review, but is here just to tell you who might like it, or who should watch it.

John Carter is a thrilling movie filled with romantiation (my fav. word for love), fighting, and mystery. Kids can see it, and it is humorous. Love comes in at every turn, but then danger finds a way to disrupt it.
You will never forget this movie, if you see it, and don't be afraid to squeeze your napkin the whole time because you came too early and ate all of your snacks and drank your drink, so all you had left to do was to hold your napkin. I did JUST THAT :P

Have fun watching!!!

Gracie: Publishing Stories

We all love to write stories, at least, most of us do. So, what happens if you write a story and want to publish it? Here are a few tips on how to and instructions on how to PUBLISH YOUR STORIES.

TIPS:

1. Make sure that you edit and revise!!!
You DO NOT want your story to have a ton of type-os, misspellings, and other common OR uncommon mistakes. All of your writing problems and worries can be washed away if you have a friend re-read it and edit and revise. DO NOT PUBLISH A BOOK THAT IS FILLED WITH MISTAKES. That can become problematic.

2. Make sure you have someone else read it!!
You may think that your story is great and ready to publish, but why not have a few people re-read it?? They can help you find mistakes that you yourself couldn't fins if they were in bold and highlighted. Why not? You may be asking. Well, it's like you are afraid to say to yourself, "This needs fixing," or "I need to revise this." Not everyone is perfect, so don't imagine that every detail in your book/story is rainbows and ice cream. (Not to be mean, but teacher can be way harsher, so don't ignore ME to hear THEM scold you and your writing. HAVE FRIENDS CHECK, REVISE, AND EDIT YOUR STORY/BOOK!!

3. You MUST make sure that your title isn't copying another one.
It is A-OK if your title is the same as another one.... really, but when you write your story, and if the title is the same or not, DO NOT COPY. There ARE REASONS for that ©....

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Go to a book-making website
You can go to mixbook.com, which I highly recommend. If you do go there, you can make an account for free, but you still have to buy your book..... ☹ Anyway, you can pick your theme, back rounds, stickers, book size, whether it is paperback or a hard copy, and so on.

2. Sign in or Signup!! (Obviously)

3. Pick your book size, theme, title, and so on.
Don't fret, you can change this all later. Also, don't worry about the theme.. If you don't like any of them, pick one and you can always pick another back round when you start typing.

4. START A-WRITING!!

If you have any questions please ask, because I know how confusing it can be to go on a new website and think about how you have to pay FOR SOMETHING. You worry that you are picking something expensive, or that you are doing something that you shouldn't and it will end up being something that costs moolaa..... Don't fret or worry!! If you do, make a comment with your question (sounds funny) and WE WILL ANSWER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Evy: Good Advice

Hi, everyone! Today I'm going to be helping you with good advice -- not only to get but also to give.  I love helping out my friends and family with their tough problems; I'm usually involved in some argument, heartbreak, or major falling-out so I have plenty of experience.

Since I can't reach out to all of you personally in one Blogtime, you can email me at evyandgracie@gmail.com (that's evyandgracie [at] gmail [dot] com) so I can help you with any problem. (See the asterisk at the bottom of this Blogtime for more information on that.)

- Heartbreak
Heartbreak is hard. Breakups, tragic relationships, etc. are hard to get through. For more on these things, you can visit Gracie's Blogtime about Breakups. The easiest way to deal with it is to share your feelings with someone else who is good at helping. Take your mind off of the breakup or nonexistent relationship, and just have fun. Whoever dumped/doesn't recognize you in that way doesn't really deserve you, and you know that in your heart. Hang with people that do deserve you and that feeling will go away. Soon enough you'll find someone you'll learn to love, and that will care for you as best as anyone can.
Friends and family - if you know someone facing heartbreak, try to help them out. Listen to them and try to help them by getting them a little more relaxed and keeping their mind off of it. NEVER walk away from a friend in this kind of need. It hurts even more!!

- Family Problems
These are the hardest to take care of, especially when you live with the family. Sometimes it's your mom that bothers you, sometimes it's your dad that yells at you, sometimes its a stepmember of the family that truly pushes your buttons, or a sibling that just wants to bug you. The easiest thing to remember is that behind that, they really love you. They're your family! It's easy to dislike them and say mean things, but it's hard to truly hate them and believe those things. Unlike heartbreak, it's not something you should run from. Confront it at its source, politely and professionally. Maybe you could be making the changes. If your family's screaming at you to clean your room -- maybe it would be easier to just clean the dang thing then to spend a two-week argument over it. Remember you all need to make changes for each other - it's just the right thing to do! Try to stay calm and patient with them, and think of a good time where you were happy with them/vice versa.

- Friend Problems
These are pretty easy. Did a friend backstab you? Hurt you? Deceive you majorly? They don't deserve to be your friend. It might be hard to accept at first (how can I live without...Rhonda? John? Louise? I don't know!!!), but if they continually bully you and keep you down then let yourself free by saying, you know what? I don't need you. You aren't my friend. But if it's someone that's truly important...really special...and you're having a fight -- if you don't want them to think the above about you, apologize. Even if you didn't do anything wrong. That's the hardest part about fights; having to be the bigger person. Trust me; I would much rather take back some things I said and apologize then have a long stretched out fight and not be able to fix the holes. If you're the friend...think about how the other friend is feeling! And if you're a third friend that isn't involved at all...scheme something to get them to talk together. To pour their feelings. And explain this whole paragraph to them and try to help!!!

Alright, that's it! If you need some personal advice, email me at evyandgracie@gmail.com*

*Whatever you email me is strictly confidential. Though Gracie and I share that email account, make the subject TO EVY and she will not intrude. I would love to help you one-on-one via email, and for emailing evyandgracie@gmail.com check our email form in a separate Blogtime (Blogtime about Emailing Us!).

Evy: "The Secret World of Arrietty" Review

Hi guys! So today I just saw Studio Ghibli's "The Secret World of Arrietty." You might know some of Ghibli's other work, which includes Ponyo and Howl's Moving Castle. I decided to write a review about it to help some of you indecisive movie-seers! :)

RATING: 5 of 5
AGE GROUP: PG
PRODUCER: STUDIO GHIBLI
REVIEW: Based on the book "The Borrowers," the movie "The Secret World of Arrietty" describes the adventures of a young girl borrower with her human 'bean' friend, Sean. Actress and singer Bridgit Mendler portrayed Arrietty and fellow actor David Henrie voiced Sean. It was honestly a close tie between the movie and the book, and I really loved both. I highly recommend this movie; it's really worth the ticket ^_^. It's a wonderful, emotional film with lots of detail and in-the-scene feel. Ghibli really creates that on-the-edge aspect, where you're always tipping over your chair for more. I would definitely see this movie a second time. For adults and kids alike. Simply amazing!

Gracie: Breakups

Breakups, sometimes you CAUSE it, and sometimes you're the victim.
Now here are a few tips for if you want to break up, but make sure that you don't  have any hard feelings:

1. YOU NEED TO THINK
You need to really think of all of the reasons of why you don't love that person anymore.
a. ONCE YOU THINK, EXPLAIN
Explain to your lover that you don't think that you should date anymore. Give them some good, strong reasons. Ex. arguments, rudeness, not spending enough time together etc.

2. FLOAT AWAY
Another thing that you could do is "float away" as in start to talk less together and spend less time together... then again, that COULD be a reason for you all to break up.

3. DON'T ASK TO BE FRIENDS
Don't ask to be friends when you break up, because then you wouldn't be able to be....... just "float away" once you break up.

4. DON'T DATE STRAIGHT AFTERWARDS
Make sure that you don't date another person RIGHT AFTER you break up..... seem to be sad, to regret it. Though it sounds silly, you may get that person back as a friend if you do that.

Now here are a few tips to those who are dumped:

1. DON'T THINK
Don't think about that person. Don't think how bad they were, don't think about how good they were.

2. NO ASKING OUT AGAIN
Don't ask them out again or say yes to them for a long time. A month, a year. If you DO say yes, then they will think that you are going to follow them forever.

3.  NO ICE CREAM
Don't eat a tub of ice cream like in the movies, in fact, go ahead and STAY AWAY from ice cream isles and stores....... When you do, it's like waving a white flag to your LONG TIME enemy.... AND shoving your face into a gallon of ice cream.

Now this is my FAVORITE part: REVENGE....
So, you want to get revenge on the person that you were dating...... Go ahead. Now the way I see it (and I may see it wrong, I DO need glasses :P) is that it matter what person you are.... Say you are very nice and kind, don't get revenge, that could ruin your rep. If you are outgoing and playful, heck yeah!! It matters what you think you should do, though..... THAT is what matters... When you THINK TOO HARD you can over-think it, causing you to do what's wrong. The way to do it is to DO WHAT YOU THINK you should do, Ok??
Don't get revenge when you think that you shouldn't, and don't NOT get revenge when you think you SHOULD..

My OTHER fav. part: HOW to get revenge
Don't date their best friend, just to get them to regret you being THEIR'S
Don't be super nice to your NEW boyfriend, just to make them regret...
DO be icy......
:P

Gracie: Putting up with Friends

Everyone can put up with friends, and everyone has them..... believe it or not. Sadly, sometimes your friends can become annoying, or you are in a bad mood and realize HOW ANNOYING they are. Maybe they 'accidentally' tell everybody that you are 'in love' with this guy or you kissed them..... *SO* not cool.

So, you want to get revenge, right? Wrong... maybe after a month or 2 you will realize that both of you need the other. Once you realize that, you want to put things back in order, and your friend probably want to too..... BUT they MAY decide that you are PLAIN 'MEAN' and tell themselves that you shouldn't be friends...... Get yourself to still apologize, even though your friend may say, "I don't think that we should be friends.." You THEN gradually become friends AGAIN!! For those of you who are luck enough to have your friend say "Yesh!! Let the friend-fest begin!" count your lucky stars, because only one or two of my friends even THINK about international Friends Day.... Yeah.... international Friends Day.

Maybe you think that everything is handy dandy, good. It probably is, but when you finally realize how annoying your friend(s) is/are you are in trouble..... --NOTE: Everybody is annoying in their own way, and your friend may not realize it until you guys are friends for a year or more. ANYWAY, there are tons of things you can do when your friends seems like the most annoying person in the world, right after your mom:

GOOD THINGS TO DO:
1. You can think about how FUN they are
2. You can test them:
    a. See what they do when you are TRYING to be annoying
    b. See what they do when you say that you are 'best friends' with someone else
(If the answer is to your liking, you KNOW that they are your friend, and most likely, the one who will
     understand you best)
3. Spend EVEN MORE time with them and see what you do together....... IT CAN BE FUN
4. Spend time with their other friends that you don't know very well..... MAKE SURE YOU DO IT *WITH* THEM (They may start to think that you are TRYING to take all of their friends)

BAD THINGS TO DO:
1. Ignore them (This could make them mad and annoyed with YOU......... That could cause a fight, which CAN NEVER be good)
2. Talk about them behind their back (Nobody can keep secrets)
3. Be 'icy' to them (Really???? Being icy could cause a MAJOR fight "Why were you ignoring me??" "I wasn't *ignoring* you" and so on)
4. NEVER spend more time with another friend who isn't one of your besties.... PROBLEMATIC..

Evy: "The Glory Field" Review

I just finished reading Walter Dean Meyer's "The Glory Field" as part of my English required reading. I decided I'd review it for you guys, in case you want to read it for pure enjoyment.

RATING: 4 of 5 stars
AGE GROUP*: 12+
GENRE: Black History, Historic Fiction
AUTHOR: Walter Dean Meyer
REVIEW: "The Glory Field" was an inspiring story showing several different generations of an African-American family: how they learned to thrive and survive as slaves, and how they came to love the land they worked. Personally, it's not a book I would read for personal enjoyment -- but to be fair, I'm not the biggest fan of historic fiction in general. I recommend this book for readers twelve years or older, as subtle suggestiveness and minor word choice is used (there are no obscenities throughout the book, however, racism is a topic and the perspective it is viewed from is debatable). It's a tasteful book and isn't for one who desires adventure, mystery, and wonder on every page.

*The recommended ages due to book content.

Evy: Taiko Drumming

Tonight I saw an amazing drumming show called TAO: The Art of the Drum. I'm currently particularly fascinated with late-night loud shows (Stomp!, for example), and this hit a tie for number one on my list.
Perfectly synced drumming along with flawless choreography, occasional humor, and extraordinary coordination, rhythm, and music created this wonderful 2-hour set. It is definitely worth the see if TAO: The Art of The Drum ever comes to your city! There's something for everyone - Japanese instruments and even some acrobatics are some surprise effects of the show.
Even more thrilling is the drumming itself - it must have taken YEARS of practice! The drunmers' perfect unison and quick reflexes totally awed me.
You need to see this! Even if it isn't live, you can listen to their CD or watch their DVD to bring this amusement home ;)

Gracie: Boredom Busters

So I was was really bored and was thinking, how do you know what to do when you are bored?? Do you think hard, or what?? Well.. I made up this little survey:

1. Why are you bored?
a) 0 amount of excitment
b) Nothing to do.....
c) We can't GO anywhere.... :(

2. Is anyone with you??
a) Nobody, but my parents (and maybe a sibling or 2, but they are on the phone or in their own little world)
b) Nobody..... parents gone, friends at parades, brother and sister away
c) Everyone :(

3. Are you in the mood for an adventure?
a) As long as there is excitment at every turn, SURE!!
b) Not really....
c) Is there shopping, going to the park, or maybe SOMETHING??

KEY BELOW.......

If you answer  mostly a's, I think that you should go to the park, there try and play a game with a bunch of friends...... you need to have fun, and the park is the best place for you to go without having to travel all the way to Alaska or something....
If you answered mostly b's then go ahead and do an art project.. it is calming (most of the time) and you get to focus all of that attention on your to-be masterpiece.

If you answered mostly c's you REALLY need to get out of the house and have a little YOU time... maybe play in the backyard or sit on your bed, close the door, and read!!

Gracie: Symbols

OK. I don't know whether or not most people know, but I never did until now. Here's how to do symbols like a heart or something on a Mac:

1) You need to have a Mac. On the top-right there should be a little flag from where you are along with the time and so on.

2) Click that flag!!

3) It SHOULD say Show Character Palette. Click on it and there is your Character Palette!

𝄞一卅ʥ☪☜♲⌚❤........ So, there are some things that you can do with the Character Palette!

Gracie: Choosing Friends

You may not think that this is something that is high on the "IMPORTANT" list, but, oh, trust me, it is.
When you pick who your friends are, it's like picking your future. Will you take this road or this road? Now, sometimes you CAN predict what will become of your friend.  Here are a 2 VERY important ways that you COULD see what your friend is like... later on:

1. You could take a nice look at them... maybe their clothes. If they are wearing a giant purple skirt with a skinny T-shirt,  you can be sure that they're those fun, outgoing friends. Sometimes your friends will wear some fancy-shamancy clothes to make themselves feel pretty or something. It's your choice once you realize what they are like. Do you want that outgoing friend, that shy one, that smart one, or maybe that pretty and popular one?

2. Will they be by your side at all times? It matters. Do they seem to have a wish for MANY friends, and always want "back-up" friends? If that is the case, then no, they really won't stay by your side. They might WANT to, but when they get backup friends, that means that 1, they doubt you or 2, they think that YOU won't be by their side..... If they seem to always want to be with you, or seem to admire you, you can pretty much say that they will stick with you. Now, there are exceptions (myself knowing one).

Sometimes it's too late and that "friend" has already told some people all those secret secrets that you only told them because of the fact that they seemed trustworthy and had this icy stare that could make a statue give in and decide to walk because she told it to. Now, when that happens you want to either ignore them, or tell them how mad you are at them. This is the #1 thing to do, usually. Now, I, for one, am always realizing a little TOO late when my friends are not really called friends, but that-moron-that-can't-seem-to-stop-being-a-moron. Yeah.. not good. So, it's always good to choose wisely and DON'T GIVE OUT ANY SECRETS.
My friends that can be mean, I know would never give out my secrets to my haters, but you know what, if you really trust them, tell them something (that you don't mind giving out) and see if they spread it. That  is my FAVORITE test. So few pass it, but when they do, you celebrate. :)

Sometimes when you befriend somebody, they seem harmless. They probably were at the time, but when you see them changing in front of your very eyes, make sure that your doing all you can to say "I'm sorry, but I feel like your changing right in front of my eyes, like your a loved one turning into a monster."

Evy: Homesickness

I just left my cousins' house and I probably won't see them for several months or a year. That missing-you feeling is normal with me because I visit them at least twice a year, and I've learned ways to cope with the feeling.
Whether its homesickness, missing a friend or family member, or just feeling lonely, you should always...
1) Keep in touch with them! I email, text, and play online games with friends and cousins I'm feeling homesick for. Sometimes reminders of people make you even worse, but hearing from them really clears up the feeling.
2) Put your mind on other things too! Draw, write, shop, cook, clean, play...go on with your life because eventually the homesickness will fade.
I want to give a special shout-out to my cousin Gracie (yes, the very Gracie that I share this blog with). Hi, Gracie!!! See you soon!!!

Evy: Road Trips

Let's face it: being in a car for +2 hours absolutely sucks. Depending on your car and how many people you're traveling, you could be squished like a bug. Whatever the conditions, you're almost always bored, cramped, and uncomfortable. Here are a few ways you can help that -
1) Prepare! Bring books, fully charge your iPod, rest your texting thumbs, and make sure you pack enough sweets to keep you going for however long your trip is (I suggest one small candy per thirty minutes, but your metabolism may rush in the car.)
2) Wear comfy clothes. Nobody wants to go through a cross country drive in a hoop skirt. TRUST ME.
3) Every thirty minutes wiggle around. Move your legs, your butt, your back, and change general position.
4) Maybe take a nap. To be honest, it helps the time pass by. Turn on some music and drift away :)
5) Clean up along the way. Bring along a trash bag and pack everything neatly. It maximizes your space and keeps your car nice and neat.
6) Driver's Tip: if you're going to be the driver and you're the only one in the car pack everything close to you. No dozing! Eat something every once in a while. Grapes, small candies, and caffeinated soda helps with the staying awake part. If there are other passengers, have them help you out!

Hope this helps!

Gracie: Painting

Everybody loves to paint, especially me.
I take art lessons, and am in TAV, Talented In The Visual Arts.
When people paint, usually they use special brushes and paints. When I paint, I tend to use acrylic paints and small, not that fancy brushes. When using watercolor I always use paints that are in thaws fancy tubes. Why? For me, they are always easier to move around and if I only need 2 colors, then I can just bring 2 tubes instead of a whole palette thingy.
When you are about to paint with acrylic or watercolor, and this is quite obvious with WATERcolor, make sure you have some water in a little cup.
When you finish with one brush, make sure that you wash it thoroughly. I dry my brushes on a little bamboo mat that you van roll ip with all igneous brushes inside of it.
When you are done painting, make sure that your painting is in a safe place where it can dry in peace. :). My brother and I have a small table that we call The Gallery because we leave our paintings to dry there, but please can still look at them.
If you have no idea what to paint, here are some ideas:
1. You should paint something about how you feel. If you are sad, paint something sad. SadLY, some people think that means paint someONE sad. You can do that too, but I'd rather have people look at it and think: "though this piece of artwork doesn't say 'I am sad' it portrays its feelings quite well"
2. If you love nature, I'm sure that if you paint outside on a nice Spring day, some masterpiece will come of that blank canvas collecting dust in that old closet.
3. Paint someone that you love. It could be your boyfriend, your mom, your brother, your dad or so on. Make sure that that person can stay still for a long time!!
Happy Painting ^-^

Gracie: Luck

There are lucky symbols, lucky necklaces and pendants, and lucky statues.
The definition of luck is "success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through one's own actions
So, when I say that I'm lucky, I'm pretty much saying that a lot of things that have happened to my have been brought by chance.
In my opinion, luck is just family and friends standing up for you, or helping you. They are like those "lucky angels" that you see on TV.
When you fall, it isn't luck that picks you up, and when you get into a car accident, it isn't luck that helped you live. It was the driver, that brick wall, or maybe that bridge that saved you.
And when it is that driver, the only time it should be someone you don't know, would be when your in a foreign country in a taxi, or maybe in another state. Of course, it could be a limo driver, but I count those as really safe.
Sometimes you can get caught up in the moment and think that rubbing your pendant caused your favorite football team to win the Superbowl, but really, I think it was due to the amount of practice that they did.
When time stops and you realize that your just kidding yourself, that can be one of the best feelings ever because you know that team or person doesn't rely on luck itself. Of course, sometimes it feels like that warming fire as burned out and you are stuck in the cold mountains all alone because you feel like you can't do anything anymore.
That's what I think. You may have a different opinion on the matter, but I think that if you take a moment and decipher the code, you can really understand: Luck may be real, but you are the controller of whether you need to user it or not.

Evy: Friend Fights

It's happened to all of us: we've gotten into an argument with a friend over nothing and it explodes into a lifetime rivalry. None of us want to lose good friends because both of us are too stubborn to admit that we're wrong or to give in, so here are some tips to not only prevent friend fights but also deal with them properly: TO PREVENT - 1. To keep a good friendship you need to listen to one another. Never push away someone else especially when they're just trying to help. Be levelheaded to avoid arguments. 2. Keep it real but friendly! 3. Sometimes, though you might hate it, it is necessary to give in to a fight that you may lose or that may risk your best friendships. It's good to sacrifice for one another. TO END/DEAL - 1. Have a talking session where you just pour what you're thinking and feeling out and listening to the other person as well. This increases understanding and trust between you two. 2. Give in. Apologize first. Take things easily and try not to get too angry. 3. Let it heal. If trying to help doesn't work just let time take its course and let the other person and you get over your anger. 4. Sometimes friendships can't be helped. If you were pulled into a bad one, you'll know it when you feel it. Try to repair things as best you can but sometimes these friendships can't be patched together and you go your separate ways, no hard feelings. Use these tips wisely. #4 on the end/deal list is last resort. Don't end a friendship without trying. And take time to consider if the friendship and the friend, what they are worth to you and to your time, and either make amends or decide that the line should fall at that argument. Good luck. :)

Evy: The Secret World of Arrietty

From the producer Ghibli (the creator of Ponyo and Howl's Moving Castle) comes the amazing new world of the Borrowers! I personally loved the book. The movie "The Secret World of Arrietty" came out yesterday, February 17, and I'm hoping to see it today. If you've seen the trailers or recently Wiki'd the movie, Bridgit Mendler (Teddy Duncan of "Good Luck Charlie") voices the character of Arrietty and David Henrie (Justin Russo of "Wizards of Waverly Place") portrays the voice of Sean, Arrietty's human friend. Bridgit and David are friends from Wizards of Waverly Place, where Bridgit temporarily starred as the vampire girlfriend of Justin Russo, Juliet. I honestly think they really fit the parts of the animated movie, and given their prior friendship, they should have no problem emitting the emotion required for the part.

The books "The Borrowers" were fantastic, and I highly reccommend that you read them before you watch the movie. See you later, Blogtimers! This post will be edited once/if I see the movie with my review :)

Gracie: Organization

We all want to be organized, and sometimes it's easy, other times it can be on the hard side. :) Here are a few tips for being more organized:

1. COLOR CODE
You can COLOR CODE almost anything. If your binder is a mess, color code tabs so you know where to find what. Maybe you have a ton of things in your drawers....... Aqua= not so important, Purple= IMPORTANT.

2. USE DIFFERENT FONTS
If you are on the computer and you are typing something, and it's very long, USE DIFFERENT FONTS! You can easily find that swirly one against that drab one... :) Get creative!!

3. LABELS
Labels are important. Say you have a lot of shelves, label where the musical folders are, or maybe where you put that extra few clothes that you didn't need anymore.

If you are like me, then you would find these few tips helpful. I was a minature slob, but I finally thought up some useful tricks. :)

Maybe your just like me and think that when people say these things, they just hire experts to help them out..... NOT ME!!

Evy: Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday)

For all my Louisiana friends -- and just us in the South in general -- Mardi Gras (a.k.a. Fat Tuesday) is a very important time!!! Parades, king cake, beads, and dressing up (or, in New Orleans's case, dressing down) are all important aspects of this thoroughly celebrated holiday. I personally think that Mardi Gras floats and parades, though loud and extravagant, are all in good fun and are just like Christmas trees on Christmas: needed, though sometimes a hassle.

Comment about your thoughts on Mardi Gras!

Evy: Valentine's Day

Okay, so all of those boyfriends and girlfriends are looking forward to Valentine's Day because of the love and the presents...and all of us single guys and girls are like, "...the heck with Valentine's Day." We're dreading it for exactly the same reason! But no matter what side you think from, V-Day is all about love, candy, and PINK!!!

I know it's a little late -- V-Day was quite a few days ago, but to help you prepare for next year, here are a few things you can do whether you're all coupled up or just a sad little single:

- YOU DON'T NEED A DATE!
If you're alone this holiday, just hang out with your friends at whatever dance, special event, or hallway strut you have in mind for Valentine's Day :)

- GIRLS LUHV PRESENTS, BTW...
If you're a guy with a girl and you're not sure what to get her, keep in mind these things --
a) girls love presents, but all girls are different. Think of a gift that best fits your holiday honey! Whether it be a necklace (for a girly girl), a chick flick (for a sensitive one), or a bouquet of roses (for a love puppy), make sure you pick the perfect pres.
b) it's all about presentation! Don't just hand her your gift -- actually make an EFFORT! I'm not telling you to ride in on a goldclad trusty steed, but maybe wrap it up nicely, add a card, something sweet or special that will make her proud to be with you. Otherwise...I'll give you a month before she breaks up with you.
c) gifts are important in not only quality, but quantity! Even if your girl loves the more simpler side of life and you're a bit empty in the pockets, one or two gifts at least is best :)

- WHAT TO GET YOUR GUY?!
Sometimes guys don't really want the presies like we do, but again, it matters

who they are. And don't get sobby and sappy and stuff with them -- most guys will get embarrassed, as they aren't as girly as we are, obv! But if you want to be sweet and have them remember this day in particular -- here is a tip for you to use:
a) Personalize your gift, if you give one! If your loved one is a geek or a nerd...algebra book, graphing calculator, math lecture tickets, anyone? If he's a football player and you've got a lot of moolah, a signed football by his favorite football player would be AH-MAZING!!!

All right -- hope you have a good one! See ya!!!
